Clouds come crashing

Written September 9, 2002 to January 12, 2004.

There are two different versions of the chorus lyrics. The first version was performed live a few times between November 2003 and January 2004; the second version appeared on the first complete recording. I find myself preferring the old version over time...it's less chattery, but makes almost no sense.

lyrics

at any moment now the clouds could come crashing to the ground
so open up the windows and we can see if there's a sound
together we might glow and make electricity tonight
and thunder won't compare at all when we hold each other tight

every second counts so count the seconds brushing past us
and our fingers know our blood is trying hard to make us
write the perfect song tonight by dreaming while we're half awake
and we'll forget we have to say so long to this place

the pleading look you gave said more than any threat you ever made
(even though I really didn't know what I wanted to)
the way you touch my face means more than any gift you ever gave
(even though I never had what I said I'd give to you)
oh what I wouldn't give for just another summer's worth of days
(even though we really never know when we'll say goodbye)
we'll use the time to touch or tell all of the things we couldn't say
(even though I didn't ever tell you, I want to try)

every second counts so count the seconds brushing past us
and our fingers know our blood is trying hard to make us
write the perfect song tonight by dreaming while we're half awake
I don't want to have to say so long to this place
it won't be long for this place

your touch is everything
our eyes see everything
words don't mean anything
I won't say anything
